The Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography has a history of up to 100 years (since 1922). It specializes in surveying and researching natural conditions and marine resources in the East Sea. Currently, the Institute is the largest marine sample repository and research center in Southeast Asia. It is also a leading international collaboration and technology transfer center in the region in the field of research, conservation, and development of marine biodiversity.

The most prominent attraction for tourists at the Institute is the Oceanography Museum. This place is an interconnected complex, including the largest marine organism aquariums and marine specimen storage systems in the country.

This is where visitors can admire the beauty of a miniature ocean world with massive glass tanks, housing hundreds of marine species such as sharks, rays, sea crabs, living corals… There are two aquarium areas, indoor and outdoor.

Specimen Exhibition Area

This area showcases specimens of more than 10,000 creatures from the East Sea and surrounding regions. Among them are rare species like the dugong, pointed-tail moonfish, bell jellyfish, and there are massive fossil skeletons like an almost 18m long, 3m high whale skeleton weighing 10 tons, and a 3.5m long, 5m wide Sunfish skeleton.

Truong Sa Park

The park is uniquely situated with land on its rear and the sea in front, covering 300m of coastline and 3,100m2 of water area. This is the only place in Vietnam that showcases the marine resources of the Hoang Sa – Truong Sa islands.
